Pengertian dan Tujuan Narrative Text

Di dalam Bahasa Inggris dikenal yang namanya Narrative Text . Narrative Text merupakan salah satu dari 13 jenis text bacaan yang terdapat dalam pelajaran bahasa Inggris seperti halnya Recount , Annecdote , Spoof , News Item text dll. Apakah itu Narrative Text ???

Narrative Text adalah Text yang menceritakan sebuah peristiwa yang imajinaatif (Khayalan) secara urut / sistematis dan berfungsi untuk menghibur pembaca.

Seperti yang telah diuraikan di atas Tujuan dari Narrative Text sendiri adalah menghibur dan menarik minat pembaca untuk mengikuti cerita yang ada serta membuat pembaca seakan akan merasakan sebagai tokoh utama yang ada di dalam cerita tersebut.

Struktur Narrative Text

Seperti halnya jenis text bahasa Inggris lainnya Narrative text juga memiliki structure structure , antara lain :

1. Orientasi : Yaitu berisi adegan pembuka , berisi pengenalan tokoh dan latar di dalam cerita.
2. Komplikasi : Mulai muncul konflik di dalam cerita.
3. Resolusi : Mulai adanya pemecahan masalah terhadap konflik , sampai konflik tersebut teratasi.
4. Re-Orientasi : Bersifat Opsional , namun biasanya berisi keadaan tokoh setelah konflik tersebut di atasi.

Ciri - ciri Narrative Text 

Adapun ciri- ciri dari sebuah Narrative Text antara lain :

1. Karena Narrative Text menceritakan masa lampau (Walaupun Terkadang Khayalan) oleh karena itu menggunakan Past Tense , baik Simple Past Tense , Past Continous maupun bentuk past lainnya.
2. Narrative Text haruslah urut atau kronologis , tidak boleh terbalik balik struktur nya.
3. Karena harus kronologis Narrative Text biasanya menggunakan conjunction (Kata hubung) agar cerita dapat urut .
4. Fokus pada satu tokoh yaitu tokoh utama karena itu biasanya menggunakan kata ganti I , He , She , We.
5. Biasanya menggunakan dialog agar mengajak pembaca berimajinasi sehingga ceritanya terlihat nyata.

Contoh Narrative Text :

The Cap Seller and The Monkeys

Once, a cap seller was passing through a jungle. He was very tired and needed to rest. Then, he stopped and spread a cloth under a tree. He placed his bag full of caps near him and lay down with his cap on his head.

The cap seller had a sound sleep for one hour. When he got up, the first thing he did was to look into his bag. He was startled when he found all his caps were not there.

When he looked up the sky, he was very surprised to see monkeys sitting on the branches of a tree, each of the monkeys is wearing a cap of on its head. They had evidently done it to imitate him

He decided to get his caps back by making a humble request to the monkeys. In return, the monkeys only made faces of him. When he begun to make gesture, the monkeys also imitated him.

At last he found a clever idea. " Monkeys are a great imitator," he thought. So he took off his own cap and threw it down on the ground. And as he had expected, all the monkeys took off the caps and threw the caps down on the ground. Quickly, he stood up and collected the caps, put them back into his bag and went away.
